Apple launches its at-home iPhone repair kit, but is it beneficial?

If you feel like you can repair your iPhone yourself, Apple is launching its repair service. Available first in the United States, before a launch in Europe in the course of the year, the program makes it possible to rent or buy the tools necessary for a proper repair.

Reserved for do-it-yourselfers

Apple’s Self Service Repair can indeed repair several iPhones, namely the iPhone 12 series, iPhone 13 and the recent iPhone SE. Camera, screen, batteryeverything goes and everything is explained in great detail by the Apple brand in its repair manuals.

Then all you have to do is choose from the 200 spare parts offered by the company, and to buy or rent the necessary tools (allow 49 dollars per week for rental). Apple states that “the tools available to customers on the Self Service Repair Store are the same ones used by Apple’s repair network. They are custom designed to help provide the best repairs for Apple products and are built to withstand the rigors of high volume professional repair operations where safety and reliability are the top priority.
