Studio Display: Apple offers a beta update to improve the webcam

Apple is now releasing a beta of its Studio Display firmware 15.5 to improve the webcam. This update was expected, Apple first announced it… over a month ago.

Finally improving the webcam with the Studio Display

Studio Display testing in March showed that one of the big issues with the display was none other than its webcam. The quality was more than average, which was disturbing for a screen whose price starts at 1,749 euros. Apple then promised that a fix would be released with an update, without giving a date.

So today is the arrival of the patch for the webcam, but it is for the moment a beta. “This beta update brings improvements to the Studio Display’s webcam settings, including noise reduction, contrast, and framing”, has indicated an Apple spokesperson.

The version is currently available to those who have a Studio Display connected to a Mac running the macOS 12.4 beta (the third beta has just been released, as well as for iOS 15.5, watchOS 8.6 and tvOS 15.5). If you have this configuration, go to System Preferences > Software Update and install the new firmware for the display.

Apple doesn’t say when the new webcam-enhancing firmware will be available to everyone. We can imagine that it will be a matter of weeks with the final version of macOS 12.4.
